MACOMB, ILL. -- Illinois State Police Lt. Ron Grant is talking with his troopers at District 14 in Macomb as they plan ahead for the winter storm that's expected to hit after midnight on Tuesday. He says people need to just plan ahead and be prepared for several inches of snow.

"The suggestion is not necessarily to stay home at this point, because we don't know what's going to happen, but if it does happen allow more time to travel don't get in a hurry watch for those bad areas visibility is going to be bad because of the wind blowing," Grant said.

As the state troopers prepare for the snow, Perry Cale is also getting ready for the calls to his towing company. He says when there's a white out, he won't send out his drivers.

"We don't leave the city limits during a white out we're pretty safe here inside the city limits but with the conditions on the highway with the snow blowing we cant' do anything up there either, so we just keep the trucks in until the snow stops and the snow plows are out and then we can get people out of the ditches," Cale said.

Grant said the parking lot effect you see happens when there are multiple cars stuck along a section of highway. It happens when there's an accident that stalls traffic. From there, the cars and trucks that are stopped get snowed in by blowing and drifting snow.
