TRI-STATES -- If there is one thing we can tell you right now, it would be: "please stay home."

Visibility around the Tri-States is nearly down to zero as the snow continues to fall.

Tpr. Kindhart the Illinois State Police advised that Highway 172 and Interstate 72 are at stand still in multiple places. Traffic can't get up the hill at Highway 96 at Rileys Curve. Illinois 107/US 54 at Interstate 72 there is a jackknifed semi and traffic is traffic stopped all directions.

Illinois 57 is almost impassable due to drifting snow. Snow has come heavy and quick and roadways are snow packed. Some are barely barely passable. Stalled cars and trucks have caused numerous traffic back-ups. State police remind you to please remember to use headlights so you are seen at a distance. Increase your stopping distance and remember to clean off all windows and lights before you travel if you must venture out.

Jim Dewey, with WTAD Radio, reported that traffic was stopped on the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge until a MoDOT truck and an IDOT truck pushed through together.

The Hannibal Police Department is requesting residents remain at home and do not leave their house unless it is an emergency. They want to inform the public that officers will only be responding to emergency calls and traffic accidents involving injury or if someone is trapped in their vehicle. They will not be responding to any other type of calls. If you are involved in a minor vehicle accident, please acquire all pertinent information and come to the police department when weather conditions allow.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety is alerting drivers through the state to remember two numbers: 511 to check on travel conditions before you hit the road and 911 if you get caught in a snow emergency on the road.
