PERRY, MO. -- State police and Ralls County, Mo. deputies are currently investigating a suspicious package found on Main Street near Rick's Place Bar & Grill.

A deputy at the sheriff's office said they are not releasing information about the incident at this time. However, Sheriff Paul Forney and a number of law enforcement officials are at the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol bomb squad is also on the scene near Perry City Hall. A bomb-diffusing robot is being used to handle the package.

A hazardous materials crew from Hannibal is also at the scene.  They are examining the suspicious item which appears to be a jug filled with an unknown liquid.

Mayor Dustin Wasson, who was not at the scene, released a statement Tuesday morning saying that a suspicious package was found on the southwest corner of the Palmyra Main Street and State Highway 154 in downtown Perry Tuesday morning.

KHQA's Brooke Hasch will have more on this story as it develops.
