QUINCY, ILL. -- A plan to run fiber optic high speed broadband to every house in Quincy will be presented to the Quincy city council on Sept. 7.  A company based in the United Kingdom has chosen Quincy as its American launch city.

Representatives from a company called i3 spoke with council members Thursday, Sept. 2 about a pilot project that would install fiber optics in about 1300 feet of city sewers. The test would determine if Quincy's sewers met their requirements.

The pilot project would cost i3 Group about $50,000, but cost the city of Quincy nothing.

Brian Foley from New York presented his plan to the city's Central Services committee meeting Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The city of Quincy applied to become one of Google's fiber optic initiative cities in March, but hasn't heard anything about the status of that application.
