QUINCY, ILL. -- Once again the American Red Cross of Adams, Brown and Pike County took time out its busy schedule to honor the volunteers who make what it does possible.

For 95 years, the Red Cross has provided emergency services for victims of fire, floods and other types of man made and natural disasters.

Three staff and more than 470 people offer their time and service to ensure that the Red Cross is able to meet the needs of not only the people in our area but across the nation.

"We have volunteers that go out on national assignments, about 25, they come back, they come into our community, they help not only with house fires but larger scale disasters as well," Red Cross Executive Director Pam Shaffer said. "And their experience of providing Red Cross shelter and food, and you know, the health services is just invaluable."

The Volunteer of the Year award went to Paul Soebbing and the Certificate of Merit went to Brian and Sarah McIntyre for their quick action in saving their mother's life.
