Latest local news, weather and high school sports for Tri-State area

This summer we here in the Tri-State area have set a number of records but nothing like this one set last week in the town of Needles, California.

On Monday, August 13th, the National Weather Service reported that the town of Needles, California set a new world record. 

This record was not because of the heat; although it was hot, it was not due to the drought; although it is mighty dry, this record was for the "hottest rainfall."  That's right ... to answer the question of how hot is too hot for rain; we now know that 115 is not that number. With a humidity reading at the time of about 10%, the rainfall could hardly reach the ground before evaporating.

To me, the most interesting part of this story is the area that held the "old world record" for this weather event; Mecca, Saudia Arabia. That's right. The record that Needles now holds beat Mecca's impressive 109 degree rainfall on June 5, 2012. 

And we thought it was hot here in the Midwest.
