QUINCY, ILL. -- As you do your holiday shopping, it may not hurt to look into the gift of an e-reader. Public libraries throughout the area have databases where members can check out e-books for free.
The Quincy Public Library began its e-book program in 2009. More than five thousand books are available in the e-book format. They can be checked out for seven, fourteen or twenty one days. The Quincy Public Library also has fifteen e-readers available for check out.
Hannibal Free Public Library also has an e-book database. Its catalog includes educational books as well as popular reads. They have had e-books for almost a decade, but just began popular fiction books in 2010.
Both Quincy Public Library and Hannibal Free Public Library will hold courses throughout the holiday season for those looking to use the e-book system.
Since you cannot donate an e-book due to licensing, these libraries accept money for donations.
