QUINCY, ILL. -- A recent report about hospitals, mistakes and care for patients shows that of the 2,618 hospitals reviewed only 790 got a "A" rating.
One of those "A" hospitals is right here in the Tri-State area.
Patient care is always at the top of list for medical providers, and now Blessing Hospital in Quincy is being recognized for their effort in quality patient care.
The hospital was awarded an "A" by the Leapfrog Group. That group is a non for profit agency that grades more then 26 hundred hospitals across the U.S.
The group takes data from 26 categories that hospitals provide and turns it into a grade from A to F.
Maurenn Kahn is the President and CEO of Blessing Hospital. She said the grade they got from Leapfrog puts them in good company but it also raises the bar for the hospital also.
"I mean when you achieve an A, you've got to work even harder to keep the A and for us it's about everyday keeping the data out in front of us and it's about being true to what our mission is. It's about the people we take care of in this community," said Kahn.
She also said she has worked with the staff and physicians for countless hours to make sure they provide the utmost quality care for their patients. She said it not only involves the front line nurses, but also physicians and others who have direct contact with patients.
"And that's what I said earlier. It engages not only the hospital personnel, but the physicians who are in the community are a part of this. Our care coordination and many of the other agencies who support our patients and after care are all a part of helping us achieve great outcomes for our patients," Kahn said.
Of the 2, 618 hospitals that were surveyed, only 168 hospitals were graded at a D or an F.
