HANNIBAL, MO. -- It took 50 people and the national guard to break the ice Saturday in Hannibal.
The 3rd annual Polar Plunge had people jumping into the mighty Mississippi River in the 25 degree weather.
Plungers got into their appropriate outfits for the dip in the river.
Each plunger had to raise at least 75 dollars to participate. Money raised goes to Special Olympics Missouri.
"It is great to see the people out here. They love to watch the faces of the plungers when they come up out of the water. But then the National Guard provided us these warming tents, so they get warm very quickly," Mary Lynne Richards with the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department said.
Hannibal Parks and Recreation held the event. In past years, it's raised $15,000 through the plunge.
