QUINCY, ILL. -- UPS is expected to have its busiest shipping day ever, on Thursday.

The carrier says it will deliver 28 millions packages in the U.S., and there's still time for you to send our your Christmas gifts for the big day.

"Today [Thursday], to get it there by Christmas Eve you need to ship second day air and tomorrow [Friday] it would be next day air," Jessica Lamm, UPS store manager said. "It's a little pricey but worth it to get your gifts there by Christmas Eve."

UPS can pack your packages up for you or you can do it yourself. But before you seal that box up, follow these tips.

"If your packing it yourself I would say to use a lot of bubble wrap and a lot of protective stuff if it's breakable, and use a lot of tape on your boxes," Lamm, said.

If your package is extra fragile, double up.

"Double box fragile items always," Lamm, said. "Do at least four inches of padding around the inside to ensure that it wouldn't rattle around."

UPS ships just about anything, from food to pianos but think twice about before sending out those hazardous materials.

"Flammable liquids, radio active materials, explosives, compressed gasses, stuff of that nature we won't ship that," Lamm, said.

The Quincy UPS on Broadway street has seen over 800 customers since December 1. On average they ship out almost 50 packages a day, a number they expect to increase on Thursday and Friday.

The UPS store on Broadway is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
