QUINCY, ILL. -- If you haven't already, you'll soon have to fire up that lawn mower for the first time this year.
Now's a great time to get your lawn equipment tuned up for summer.
Paul Durst with Dave Francis Lawn Equipment says his business has been very busy the past couple of weeks with people getting their equipment in shape for the season.
Durst says you should service anything with a gas engine at least once a year.
He says the main reason is for safety.
A check up can make sure your belts are tight, your engine is in good working order, and your mower blades are sharp and tight.
Another thing to remember is gas can go bad, especially if it just sits.
Paul Durst says, "Anything over 30 days, the gas will go bad. It doesn't fire like it's supposed to. I've seen gas over 30 days old ... you can pour it on the ground and throw a match on it and it doesn't even light."
It's also a good idea to get your oil and air filter changed.
Paul Durst says having a dirty air filter doesn't allow the engine to breathe. He says it's like covering your face with a cloth.
