Several traffic lights through the city of Keokuk will be coming down in the next several weeks.
KEOKUK, IA -- Several traffic lights through the city of Keokuk will be coming down in the next several weeks.
Three lights will be removed on Main Street; at the intersections of 3rd, 11th and 12th.
Stop signs will be placed on the side streets.
There are also 2 other lights being removed in the city.
One is at the intersection of 7th and Timea and the other is in front of the Lincoln Elementary building.
Public Works Director Gerald Moughler told KHQA one of the reasons they are being removed is because there has been less traffic through those sections.
Another reason is the age of the lights.
"Less traffic and probably the second one and more critical on a day to day basis," said Moughler, "is they're 1962 vintage electronics and they're mechanical type electronics and there are no replacement parts right now."
The process will take about 6 weeks to take the lights down.
