DIXON, Ill. (AP) - Dixon has long been "The Petunia City," but now it's officially the catfish capital of Illinois, too.
State Rep. Jerry Mitchell, a Republican from Sterling, presented Dixon Mayor Jim Burke this week with a copy of a resolution recently adopted by the Illinois House to recognize the city for its aquatic bottom-feeders.
Mitchell said Dixon earned the title because the Rock River is known for having the best-tasting catfish in the Midwest.
The honor came just in time for Dixon's upcoming King Kat fishing tournament, which boasts $10,000 in cash prizes.
National outdoor sports retailer Cabela's is sponsoring the Saturday event.
