QUINCY, ILL. -- Local charities and not-for-profit organizations in the Tri-state area have an opportunity to earn ten percent of retail sales through the month of July during the third annual Star Spangled Community Spirit Month at Emerald City Jewelers.  The recipient of each donation will be designated by individual customers at the time of sale.

"It's a fun time and a great way to give back to our community.  We love hearing what brings customers into the store for the event," said Emerald City Jewelers president Sheri Busse.  "Last summer, one gentleman customer told us he chose to hold off purchasing an engagement ring until July, just so his purchase could help one of his favorite charities!"

In addition to the ten percent of sales donations, Star Spangled Community Spirit Month Silent Auctions will return for the 2010 event, with 100 percent of proceeds above the starting bid being donated to the participating organization of the winner's choice.  Silent auction bidding will begin July 1 during the event's kickoff and will continue throug the month of July.

During Star Spangled Community Spirit Month, ten percent of retail sales includes both in-store merchandise and gift certificates.  Terms for special order items are available at the store.

Since its inception, Star Spangled Community Spirit Month has generated more than $7000 in donations to local charities and not-for-profit organiations.
