GRIGGSVILLE, ILL. -- A mechanical fire occurred late Monday afternoon in the grinding room at The Maschhoffs’ feed mill near Griggsville, Ill.
The fire was immediately contained.
One employee was treated for burn injuries and held overnight at the Regional Burn Center in Springfield.
A crew was on-site throughout the evening to assess any damage.
The Maschhoffs will assume feed operations Tuesday to ensure that pigs continue to have a safe feed supply and to ensure animal welfare standards are met.
“We want to thank the emergency response personnel for the prompt and immediate response and assistance,” stated Dr. Aaron Gaines, vice president of Production Resources and Operations for The Maschhoffs. “Our primary concern continues to be the well-being of our employees and our animals.”
The Maschhoffs, headquartered in Carlyle, Ill., is one of the largest family-owned pork production networks in North America.
