HANNIBAL, MO. -- The following is a news release from the office of Missouri Governor Jay Nixon:

Gov. Jay Nixon today appointed Rep. Rachel Bringer, of Palmyra, to fill the position of Circuit Judge for the 10th Circuit, which includes Marion, Monroe and Ralls counties. The position became available upon the Dec. 24 retirement of the Honorable Robert M. Clayton II.

"Rachel Bringer has been a dedicated public servant for many years, both as an elected state representative and previously as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Marion County," Gov. Nixon said. "That dedication, combined with her experience as an attorney in private practice, will enable her to ably serve on the bench. I appreciate the leadership Rachel provided in the Missouri House, and I am pleased to appoint her as a circuit judge to serve the people of the counties in this circuit."

Bringer, a Democrat, has represented Missouri's Sixth House District since 2003, but was unable to serve again because of term limits. Among the many recognitions and honors she received during her service in the General Assembly was the Missouri Judicial Conference Legislative Achievement Award in 2005, 2009 and 2010. Bringer has operated her own law office since 2000 and prior to being elected, she also served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Marion County.

She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri and her law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law, where she was a member of the Missouri Law Review.

"Judge Clayton was an outstanding jurist for this circuit, and his service will be long remembered and appreciated," Gov. Nixon said. "I am confident that Judge Bringer will continue this high standard."
