QUINCY, ILL. -- More snow was dumped on the Tri-States Thursday morning.

Just over two inches of snow to the north and more then five inches in some of our southern viewing areas.

Traffic was moving slow through the slushy, snow covered roads.

Road crews were out all night trying to keep up with the fast-falling snow.

There were no major accidents to report.

We did speak with Quincy city engineer Jeff Steinkamp and he wants to remind private snow removal contractors not to plow snow on city right of way.

Fire hydrants, city benches and side walks are being blocked, its against city ordinance to do that.

The interstate was not much better.  Traffic was down to one lane and even that was snow covered.

We found a car in the ditch just off the ramp to the Broadway exit.

Looks like the driver hit a slick patch and skidded off the shoulder into the ditch.

On another note, KHQA grabbed some helpful information from the MoDOT website.

We also want to remind some of our viewers that MoDOT's top priority in a snowstorm is plowing state highways, which may require several trips down the same route.

Snow plowed from roads could end up blocking private driveways for some time. While they recognize the inconvenience this causes, due to limited time and resources, plows can only clear private driveways at the request of local emergency officials.

To reduce the amount of snow that might block your driveway, MoDOT reccommends that you shovel an open area along the shoulder at the entrance (see illustration below). Plow blades will then push snow into the area just before your driveway, leaving a much smaller amount in front of it.
