QUINCY, ILL. -- Girl Scout troops in Central Illinois have something to be proud of.

The girls of troop 5119 built the John Wood Community College Spring Valley Trails Nature Classroom.

It's located at John Wood within the trails of the arboretum.

The troop started the project in the winter to encourage young children to connect with nature through interaction.

By completing this project, the girls received the highest award a girl scout between the ages of 14 and 18 can earn -- The Gold Award.

Another part of the ceremony today included the bridging of several girl scouts.

Five daisy scouts were bridged to become brownie scouts and three cadet scouts crossed the bridge to become senior scouts.

Congratulations to those girls.
