QUINCY, ILL. -- The nation's economy may be struggling, but many Americans aren't skimping when it comes to the care of their pets.

Several pet-sitting firms, like Alpha Dog in Quincy, say their business continues to increase even during tough economic times.

People care about their pets like family and prefer not to board them or leave them home alone.

Alpha Dog has seen such an increase that they now are expanding.

Alpha Dog's owner Elizabeth Boyer says, "Some people are taking shorter vacations but they're still going on vacation. We have a lot more doggie day care dogs coming in as well. So, we're expanding. We're building four more doggie day care yards as well as twenty-two more indoor outdoor suites. So, we'll be an all suites facility."

Construction began more than a month ago.

Boyer hopes to be done by winter.
