MARION COUNTY, MO. -- Across the river, more pieces of Native American history have been unearthed.
According to the Quincy Herald Whig, crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation discovered a pair of Native American sites on both sides of the Missouri Highway 168 bridge over the North River just west of Palmyra.
They were found during an archaeological survey around the Bridge, in preparation for bridge replacement scheduled for next year.
On one side experts found a site with cooking pits dating back to between 650 and 900 A.D.
The other site, dates back to roughly 3000 to 1000 BC.
