Taking down the Christmas tree is never fun after the month-long build-up of holiday cheer ... but when you finally decide to take it down you'll want to call your city officials for the right place to dispose of it.

Starting this week, Hannibal residents were able to dispose of their Christmas trees at the following locations:

-  The Street Department Compost Lot at 7th & Colfax.
-  Fire Station #2 in Huckleberry Park.
-  Fire Station #3 off McMasters Avenue.

In the Quincy area, Boy Scout Troop #25 will be conducting its annual Christmas Tree Pick-up program again this year. The pick-up will take place on January 7th beginning at 8 a.m. and the cost is seven dollars per tree. To schedule a pick-up, you can call 217-223-5161 and leave a message with your name, address and any special directions for the pick-up.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake is encouraging local citizens to participate in the seventh annual Christmas tree recycling program in their neck of the woods. Christmas trees can be brought to a collection site at John Spalding Boat Ramp. Christmas trees will be accepted at this location until January 31, 2012 and will be used for underwater fish habitats.

As always, you're asked to remove all decorations and tinsel from any trees you drop off at any of the above locations.

We're looking for other locations that will take live Christmas trees, so if you know of any, please post it in the comments below or on our Facebook page here.
