QUINCY, ILL. -- Everyone likes to start off the new year with some change, and the city of Quincy is no different.

There's some new development in the works.

Quincy's City Planner Chuck Bevelheimer gave a sneak peak of what you can expect in the Gem City in 2012.

Bevelheimer says, "Well I think it looks good. We have a number of projects that are in the works. F & M Bank and Trust is looking at property out on 52nd and Broadway. Which we understand is going to be the home of their new bank as well as another bank, Bank of Springfield is developing and rehabbing a building at 1111 Main Street."

New development in Quincy is a good sign the economy is turning around. Some retail stores are also in the plan. Some work will start soon here at 18th and Broadway with the Ben Franklin and Walgreen's buildings.

"Walgreens has announced that they are going to put a new building on that property. I expect that work to start sometime in March."

Right about the time the weather starts to get better. Speaking of nicer weather, once spring rolls around and you want to be outside, you can expect a change in Bob Bangert and Edgwater parks down by the riverfront.

"The city did receive a couple of grants. So now the plan is to connect the two parks with a trail. We worked through some issues of trying to get around the old North Side Boat Club building. The building is historic so we had to deal with those issues. But it just becomes very expensive to and we would end up spending our entire grant on moving a building and not getting a trail built.

But the city came up with a solution for that.

"We've got advice from IDOT and who has given us a variance on how to narrow the trail down to get around the building. So that is kind of the plan for that segment of the riverfront."

Remember it's only January, and this is an initial outlook. Changes could always pop up throughout the year.
