Winter's Comeback

Much like a lagging politician late in the race, Mother nature made her comeback Thursday across the entire three state area.

Mother nature's comeback may have proven the point, that it is still winter for about 60 more days but it did little for her polling numbers, as scores of Tri-State motorists found travel tricky throughout the day.

UPDATE - The region's Winter Weather Advisory ends at midnight Thursday, but we will certainly feel the affects of this storm well into the night and Friday morning.  The tail-end of this system is currently wrapping up with a last swing through the northern and eastern parts of the region before a 3am exit out of the entire region.

However, it still may look to be snowing as strong west winds Thursday night at up to 30 mph will whip around the remaining snow and drive temperatures down to the single digits. The other issue overnight and into Friday morning will be the wind chill, which is expected to fall below zero overnight and into your Friday morning commute.

The major issues Thursday morning seem to have been blamed on the warm air of all things, as the surface/road temps melted the first blast of snow, then the re-freezing into "Black Ice" covered with a blowing snow made for slick passage on area roadways. The Tri-State area was not alone as a majority of all three states saw morning travel problems and most of Illinois and eastern Iowa still have several hours of snow remaining, as this system slows to move off to the northeast.

The good news for the Tri-State area is that normal to above normal temperatures will return to the region over the weekend, after a slight risk of snow on Saturday morning.
