MONROE COUNTY, MO. -- A former Monroe County doctor who admitted to writing false prescriptions has had his probation revoked.
Fifty-three-year-old Charles Sutherland of Moberly was sentenced in 2010 to five years of probation after pleading guilty to forgery.
As a result of the probation violation due to a pending case in Randolph County, Sutherland will now be in prison for the next 120 days. After that, a judge will determine if he should serve the full seven years of his original Monroe County sentence.
Sutherland admitted that he was the one who actually used prescriptions he claimed to have written for a worker in his Paris medical office. The doctor told a judge he had a substance abuse problem.
Records show Sutherland has previously been disciplined by medical authorities in Missouri and Illinois, and that his medical license was suspended in North Dakota.
Sutherland surrendered his Missouri medical license in 2009 and cannot seek to have it reinstated until 2014.
