Authorities are still investigating a threatening note found Thursday in a Quincy Junior High School restroom.

"It's unfortunate that schools across America continue to face these threats," Superintendent Lonny Lemon said in a press release statement. "It is our goal to inform the public up front, in an attempt to squelch the inevitable rumors. We are taking steps to preserve the safety of our students, faculty and staff."

The district put out notification to news outlets about 3:45 p.m. Lemon said the gap in time between the discovery of the threat and the public notification was due to the fact that “there was no immediate threat.”

“It's being put out now because there was no immediate threat and we were conducting an investigation and we wanted to release it correctly with the best information possible,” he said.

Junior High Principal Diane Glaub is expected to contact QJHS parents via School Reach message Thursday night.

In a phone interview Thursday night, Lemon said that he couldn't reveal the specific threat made in the note due to an ongoing investigation by district officials and Quincy police.

The note was discovered shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday by a student, Lemon said. It was taken directly to school administration and was turned over to a school resource officer.

"Our goal is that this is just a false alarm, but we certainly have to take it as seriously as we possibly can," Lemon said

The district will offer a cash reward for any information that leads to a conviction of the person responsible for the threat. Anyone with information about the case can remain anonymous.

The school district will have increased security measures Friday.
