The former Palmyra High School teacher and assistant football coach made his first in-court appearance Monday since his arrested on charges that he carried on a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.

Randy Shepard, 40, of Hannibal is charged with second-degree statutory rape, second-degree statutory sodomy and sexual contact with a student by a teacher.

He's scheduled for arraignment April 16 before Judge Rachel Bringer, according to court records.
