ADAMS COUNTY, ILL. -- The Adams County Sheriff's office is warning Tri-States residents not to fall victim to a home repair scam.

A group has been pressuring residents into paying large sums of money for jobs such as tree trimming, blacktop resurfacing, painting, and installing lightening rods.

The group got $9,000 from a victim in Quincy for a blacktop resurfacing job, and $1,200 from an Ursa resident for a partially completed paint job. The group has been using intimidation to persuade victims to pay.

The Sheriff Office cautions individuals to only use reputable businesses for these repairs, and get a copy of the estimate before the project is started.

If anyone suspicious shows up at your home, do not let them inside and call 9-1-1.
