HANNIBAL, MO. -- More than 700 people die as a result of a bike injury every year.
The Hannibal Clinic wants to bring that number down by showing kids how to ride safe and cool. The clinic held its twelfth annual "Ride Cool" bike safety and helmet event Saturday morning on its campus.
More than 300 kids were able to get a helmet properly fitted and have their bikes washed and safety inspected.
"As a health facility, it is really great to have this community support and have this many people here, because we don't want to see the kids come in with bike related injuries. We want to make sure that they've got the kind of summer that they can remember as a fun summer not one where they remember they wound up at the doctor's office," Ginny Webb with Hannibal Clinic said.
More than 500,000 people go to the hospital every year as a result of a bicycle related injury. Webb says it's important to keep track of your kids' growth to make sure their helmets continue to fit properly.
