HANNIBAL, MO. -- Five people, including a number of children, were hospitalized Monday evening after a crash on Hannibal's south side.

The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Warren Barrett Drive and 30th Street.

A car pulled out in front of a minivan.

Joseph and Leslie Essig and their four children were in the van. They were hospitalized as a precaution.

Investigators located a car driven by Robert Cates. Cates told officers that Jordan Gatske fled from the scene on foot after the crash.

Cates refused medical treatment and ambulance transport. He was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. He was later released with a citation and summons.
