ST. GENEVIEVE COUNTY, MO. -- A Hannibal construction worker has died after he was backed over by a truck in a construction zone in St. Genevieve County, Missouri.

Officials say the accident happened on Interstate 55 Monday morning when a loaded asphalt truck backed over 31-year-old Larry Dye.

Officials say Dye was picking up a highway sign in the southbound lanes of I-55 around 10:45 a.m. Police said the victim crossed the right lane but did not see the asphalt truck backing up and was struck.

Dye was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim worked for Hannibal-based Chester Bross Construction and had been hired as a contractor by MoDOT.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.
