QUINCY, ILL. -- The extreme heat is taking its toll on all of us, including Meals on Wheels drivers.

Nine of the programs volunteers were not able to deliver meals because of feeling ill from the heat.

Many of the volunteers are seniors citizens themselves. But thanks to some substitute volunteers and staff members Wednesday's meals were delivered.

This program serves seniors in 6 counties and many people are not aware of just how great the need is.

"There are a lot of aging population out there. They're living longer," Program supervisor Ellen Stockhecke said. "They're staying in their own homes much, much longer. Therefore that means we have more and more clients that need assistance."

Besides the need for regular and substitute volunteers, the program would also like to have more organizations involved in the program.

If you would like to volunteer, contact the Meals on Wheels program at (217) 224-5031 or you can stop by their offices at the Quincy Senior Center.
