A traffic stop led to what police in Beardstown are calling a “large” methamphetamine operation bust.
Brandon Winder, 18, and Andrew Dotzert, 20, both of Beardstown, are charged with numerous drug and traffic charges. The most significant charge is unlawful participation in methamphetamine production between 400 and 900 grams.
Their arrest stems from an attempted 2 a.m. traffic stop Friday near 4th and Jefferson streets in Beardstown.
Winder, the driver of the car, attempted to flee police, a press release said. Police cornered Winder and Dotzert in an alley. Winder tried to flee on foot.
An investigation uncovered a mobile meth lab and numerous other drugs, police said.
The Illinois State Police Meth response team was called in to process the lab.
Police Chief Tom Schlueter said that he expects more arrests and more meth uncovered as the investigation continues into the evening.
