KEOKUK, IOWA -- A Keokuk man was sentenced to life in prison Monday afternoon.

Adam Pitman, 24, received the life sentence after he was found guilty in July of 2012 of killing his mother.

His mother, Rosa Pitman was found dead in her home on Concert Street back in August of 2011.

During the trial, one business owner testified he sold Pitman some bath salts and synthetic marijuana the day before Rosa Pitman was murdered.

Pitman supposedly confessed to the crime to a Fort Madison Police officer after he was stopped for a traffic violation.

Pitman filed an appeal minutes after the verdict.
