Help comes too late for corn and soybean harvests

ILLINOIS (AP) -- The effects of Hurricane Sandy have provided some much needed drought relief in this part of the country.

The U.S. Drought Monitor weekly update on Thursday shows that 60 percent of the of land in the lower 48 states are experiencing some level of drought.

That is a drop of nearly 2 percentage points.

Conditions are easing in Iowa, Illinois and North Dakota.

Unfortunately this relief is coming far too late to help corn and soybean crops are almost completely harvested.
