MISSOURI (AP) -- The numbers from Tuesday are in and it looks like a large number of Missourians turned out to vote.

According to information from Secretary of State Robin Carnahan's office 2.7 million residents went to the polls.

But that number was down from 2008 when 2.9 million people in the state voted.

Meanwhile in Iowa, Tuesday's turnout was a record for the state.

Seventy-two percent of voters went to the polls on Tuesday.

That is the highest percentage of registered voters in 20 years.
