ILLINOIS (AP) -- The fate of a 33-year-old man accused of killing eight people in Missouri and Illinois is now in the hands of the jury.

Nicholas Sheley has pleaded not guilty to killing 93-year-old Russell Reed from Sterling Illinois.

He already received a life sentence for bludgeoning to death a Galesburg man.

Prosecutors said on Tuesday that Sheley's need for cocaine led him to beat Reed to death.

Regardless of the jury's verdict, Sheley still faces trials in six other deaths.
