HANNIBAL, MO. -- The "Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act" caused elementary students to wonder why their lunch portions were so much smaller.

One group of Hannibal fifth graders decided to research why they couldn't go back for seconds.The Logic Enrichment Academic Pursuit program, or LEAP, brings students from every grade together who are in their school's gifted program.

This year, LEAP's 5th graders took on a project that has taken them since September to finish.

"They are creating a video to show the positive changes in our school lunch program and to the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act that's being done nationwide," LEAP teacher Tracy Murphy said.

She said they chose to make the video after watching a viral video about the "Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act." Murphy's students were very knowledgeable about the program.

The class spent a day working with Hannibal High School students putting their video together. Hannibal High School offered their green screen and equipment to help with the project.

The final video will be shown at a Hannibal School Board meeting on February 20th. Murphy said the kids have high hopes about their final product.

The LEAP program is based out of Veteran's Elementary School in Hannibal. It includes students from all five of the city's elementary schools.
