DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- The future of the Iowa Power Fund is in question as lawmakers look to tighten spending when they convene next month.

The fund was created in 2007 and has resulted in nearly $29 million being given to Iowa companies and schools for energy-related projects.

The $100 million, four-year program was the centerpiece of Gov. Chet Culver's energy platform but now lawmakers disagree on whether it could face cuts.

State Rep. Donovan Olson, of Boone, chairman of the House Environmental Protection Committee, says there likely will be support for continuing funding for the Power Fund. But Rep. Greg Forristall of Macedonia, the highest ranking member of the House Economic Growth Committee, says lawmakers are going to have to look everywhere to cut or delay spending.
