COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA (AP) -- Two people accused of taking an Iowa State Patrol cruiser and a police dog for a ride have been arrested in Council Bluffs.
The cruiser with the K9 in the back seat was stolen Thursday when a trooper pulled over a man and woman for a traffic violation.
Courtney Greene of the Iowa Department of Public Safety says the man was put in the front seat and the woman put in the back with the dog, which was in a kennel, while the trooper inspected their car.
Greene says the man crawled into the driver's seat and took off.
He lost control on Interstate 80 during a chase. The pair ran away but were quickly captured.
The police dog was not injured.
