KEOKUK, IA -- Leah Scott gave birth to her first baby boy and the first baby of 2007 at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Benjamin Eugene Scott was born just after 7 o'clock January second.

He weighs about 8 pounds 3 ounces and he's 21 and a half inches long with a full head of dark hair.

Benjamin gave a cry for our camera, but he and mom are doing just fine.

Leah thought she would have the New Year's baby.

"I've been saying I was going to have it all along, but I really didn't expect to," leah said. "I'm just glad he's here. It wouldn't have mattered if he was the first or last of the year."

Benjamin will go home with a gift basket from the hospital.

Plus, baby food and a savings account from Keokuk businesses.

His parents get a dinner out and Leah will be pampered with a pedicure.
