(AP) -- FORT MADISON, Iowa (AP) - An inmate assigned to the Iowa State Penitentiary has died after being found unresponsive in his cell.

Michael Deere died on Sunday. He was housed in the prison's clinical care unit.

An autopsy has not determined a cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.

The 59-year-old Deere was serving a 15 year sentence from Polk County as a habitual offender. His sentence began in August.
