Oppose some labor-backed measures in state legislature
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa business group is responding to several labor-backed measures moving through the Legislature by launching a radio and print advertising campaign that claims the proposals would prompt tax increases and hurt most workers.
The Iowa Association of Business and Industry will begin the ads this week. Group members wouldn't say Tuesday how much the effort would cost.
The association is responding to plans to force contractors to pay the prevailing wage on public projects, allow unions to collect dues from non-members in a bargaining unit, expand the scope of public worker bargaining and change Iowa's worker compensation system.
The measures have strong support from many Democrats, who hold majorities in the state House and Senate.
