Hannibal, MO-- Democrats from across Missouri rallied together with hope for a brighter future.

Hundreds met at the Quality Inn and Suites in Hannibal to hear what state lawmakers have to say on the state of the economy and how they plan to get it back on its feet.  Governor Jay Nixon was the guest speaker at Saturday mornings brunch.

He says this past election season shows the unity of the democratic party.  Nixon says together, lawmakers can address Missourians needs to get the economy moving forward.

"We have a jobs bill that drove through the house in the first two weeks, it's in the Senate now. I wish the Senate will act on it before Spring break. We're hopeful we can have those extra economic tools of worker training and quality jobs so we can begin using those tools to get quality jobs in Missouri," said the Governor.

" I think this is all about solving problems. We can all agree this economy is in the worse we've seen in all of our lifetimes and the question is what are we going to do to get people back to work, rebuild our economy at ways that are fair to everyone, and hold folks in Washington and Wall Street accountable for the mess we're in," said Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.

Governor Nixon is revising a proposed Medicaid expansion for thousands of low-income adults by relying on hospital taxes and federal dollars.  The plan would use an increase in a special tax paid by hospitals to draw down more federal Medicaid dollars.

The money would be used to provide health care to adults earning up to 50% of the federal poverty level - about $9,155 annually for a family of three.  Republican lawmakers are concerned about expanding the state's welfare system.  Nixon plans to roll out his new health care proposal Monday.
