JWCC Workforce Development Center promotes productivity
Quincy, IL-- With job layoffs imminent in the Tri-States due to a struggling economy, John Wood Community College is taking steps to be proactive to help the workforce. The school created a Workforce Development Center. The center is designed for those straight out of high school looking for their first career, or those who are looking for a new career. The program will offer classes in truck driving training, welding, advanced manufacturing and construction. The career center plans to help retain, retrain and ready workers to be productive.
"During these economic times you know that folks are hurting, and all the manufacturers in our area, they've came to us and said we got to be a part of the solution, and John Wood is there, we're invested in this workforce center," said President of John Wood Community College, Dr. Thomas Klincar.
Dr. Klincar says the new programs will help students achieve their goals without breaking their bank.
" Many cases, it's not going to cost individual students anything except their time and their committment. These major employers in the area who have invested with us...We're going to find a solution tailored to each individual student," Dr. Klincar said.
John Wood President Dr. Thomas Klincar says this program will allow employers to take a look at West Central Illinois, because a skilled workforce will exist.
Welding programs will start this summer. Advanced manufacturing along with construction classes will start in the fall. All classrooms will be smart classrooms, so teachers can use interactive web-based material to teach.
