Burlington man faces hearing in forgery case

BURLINGTON, IOWA (AP) -- A May 4 hearing is set for a Burlington man charged with forging thousands of dollars in checks from a closed business.
Jason Pohlmeyer is accused of forging checks that belonged to his father's janitorial service, which has been closed for years.
Investigators went to Casebine Credit Union last November after employees reported a forgery.
Pohlmeyer allegedly cashed a $1,000 check from John's Janitorial Service. The credit union later discovered the account was closed.
The account was owned by Pohlmeyer's father, John Pohlmeyer. He told investigators he had closed the business in the 1990s after he suffered a stroke.
Authorities say Jason Pohlmeyer cashed four checks totaling $4,000. According to investigators, he need the money to fix his truck.
