FORT MADISON, IA -- You'll have to add a few more minutes to your commute if you drive across the Fort Madison bridge.

The bridge was experiencing difficulties opening and closing to allow barges to pass through.

The bridge is safe to drive on, but Burlington-Northern Sante Fe Railroad crews are directing traffic while they work on the problem.
