Lack of rain lowers outlook for Mississippi River cresting

Minor flooding is expected at some northeast Missouri points on the Mississippi River today. The flooding however will be less than originally anticipated, and according to KHQA's Tegan Orpet, "very minor.''

The National Weather Service expects the river to crest about a foot above flood stage in Hannibal. Minor flooding is also expected at Canton, Louisiana and Clarksville.

No significant damage is expected at any of the towns. The crests were originally expected to be higher, but lack of rain over the past few days has led to a change in the forecast.

Here are some of the flood and river stages around the Tri-State area:

Clarksville, Mo.: Minor flooding is occurring. Flood stage is 25 feet; the river will crest near 26.3 feet Wednesday morning.

Hannibal, Mo.: Flood stage is 26 feet; the river will crest near 17.3 feet Tuesday evening.

Quincy, Ill: Flood stage is 14 feet; the river will crest near 14.1 Tuesday morning.

Elsberry, Mo.: Flood stage is 26 feet; the river will crest near 26.4 Tuesday morning.

Beardstown, Ill.: (Illinois River); Flood stage is 14 feet; the river will crest near 19.4 Saturday morning.
