Biodiesel facility can produce 5 M gallons a year

KEOKUK, IA -- Tri-City Energy started shipping biodiesel fuel.

The alternative fuel production plant is in the old General Mills building on Johnson street.

In two weeks, the company already shipped more than 80,000 gallons of product.

Some Lee County businesses are already working with Tri-City.

"The product is used on a local level. We use area distributors such as Safe Transport in Hamilton and we're contracting with others like FS in Illinois," said Al Moander, sales and marketing director.

B&B in Montrose and M&J's in West Point already use Tri-City  Energy products.

The plant is capable of producing more than 5 million gallons of biodiesel in a year.
