QUINCY, IL -- The storm that ripped through Quincy created quite a site in the south part of Quincy, especially near Sunset Home at 5th and Washington.
KHQA's Rajah Maples toured the area late Friday afternoon and shows you some of the damage.
The 5th & Jefferson area in Quincy was hit hard this afternoon.
Here's video of a downed tree near Sunset Home. A woman told me she was sitting in the driver's seat of this van when this large tree crashed throughout the back seat window. Luckily, no one was hurt, but the woman said she then saw the wind blow this tree about 20 feet away from her van.
Here's another toppled tree that fell onto this car. This happened at about 6th and Payson. Check out this tree on South 5th street. It was ripped up through part of the sidewalk and fell east onto the house next to it.
A similar situation happened near 6th & Ohio. This old tree was ripped out of the ground, through part of the sidewalk then fell onto a nearby house.
The South part of Quincy was a potentially dangerous place to be this afternoon. Not only were there downed trees and branches, but also downed power lines. In fact, Quincy police and fire department crews blocked off several streets between 6th and 8th, where power lines were lying in the middle of roads. KHQA spoke with one member of the fire department late Friday afternoon who was trying to deter spectators to a.) try to keep the area clear and b.) make sure no one got hurt.
This was probably the most amazing story we came across. A man was driving south on 8th Street just past Payson, when this large tree fell right onto the cab of his truck. Amazingly enough, he made it out safely with no injuries. But the tree also knocked down this power line. Crews blocked the 8th and Payson intersection until a utility company could fix the problem.
Here's a look at more storm damage.
Check out these trees in front of the Adams County Courthouse.
Wind gusts snapped trees in two, including a large pine tree. In fact, pine permeated the air Friday afternoon as people walked in and out of the courthouse.
Here was a site near 24th and Lind.
Powerful wind gusts blew this large, older tree down between these two houses.
We spoke with the resident who was inside at the time.
He wasn't sure how much damage the tree caused.
Luckily no one was hurt.
But we talked with a young neighbor who saw it all happen with her own eyes.
Brianna Otten said, "I was looking out the window and saw the tree do this, then it went boom."
