Trial starts in nightclub slaying

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - Trial is under for a Waterloo man accused in a nightclub slaying in 2006.
Jury selection began Tuesday in Black Hawk County District Court in the first-degree murder trial of Jeffery Smith.
He's charged in the July 9, 2006, shooting death of Tonyeah Jackson. According to court records, the shooting happened after the pair argued earlier in the day.
Smith's trial was stalled for about a year because of a court fight over legal representation that ended up before the Iowa Supreme Court.
